2026/2027 Mini & Petite Troupe Information

Welcome to THE NEWMAN Company Mini & Petite Troupes!

THE NEWMAN Company Mini and Petite Troupes are competitive groups designed for our younger dancers. Dancers participate in weekly classes and rehearsals while preparing to perform at regional dance competitions throughout the season.

• Mini Troupe: Average group age of 6 and under

• Petite Troupe: Average group age of 7–8

Please note: The age listed is the average age of the group, not the required age of each individual dancer. Audition scores will choose casting groups.

2026/2027 Competitive Season

Our Mini and Petite Troupes will compete at four regional competitions throughout the 2026/2027 competitive season.

Competition Season: February–April 2027
Competition Locations: All competitions will be local to the Baltimore/DC/Virginia area.

Regional Competition Dates

• February 19–21, 2027 — Competition Weekend

• March 5–7, 2027 — Competition Weekend

• March 19–21, 2027 — Competition Weekend

• April 9–11, 2027 — Competition Weekend

Specific competition details will be provided when our team has been chosen. Schedules and performance times are provided to us by each individual competition, 7-10 days before each event. 

Weekly Class & Rehearsal Requirements

All Mini and Petite Troupe dancers are required to maintain their age-appropriate weekly recreational class(es) in addition to their weekly troupe choreography rehearsal.

Ages 3–4

3/4 Combo Class — Ballet/Tap
$60/month

Ages 5–6

Dancers must take:

• Pre-Ballet — $45/month

• Pre-Jazz — $45/month

OR

• Pre/Jr Ballet — $45/month

• Pre/Jr Jazz — $45/month

Ages 7–8

Dancers must take:

• Ballet 1 — $80/month

• Jazz 1 — $80/month

Weekly Troupe Rehearsal (All Mini and Petite Members)

All Mini and Petite Troupe dancers will attend one 60-minute weekly choreography rehearsal. During this rehearsal, dancers will learn and practice the Jazz/Ballet or Jazz/Lyrical choreography assigned to their troupe.

• Mini Troupe: Tuesdays, 5:30–6:30 PM

• Petite Troupe: Tuesdays, 4:30–5:30 PM

Troupe Choreography Rehearsal: $80/month

Mandatory Full Cast Rehearsal

$10 fee per dancer

Audition Fee

There is a $25 audition fee for each Mini/Petite Troupe dancer.

Additional Dance Opportunities

Additional performance opportunities may be available based on audition scores and dancer eligibility. If your dancers is chosen, we will announce this in your individual casting sheets, but please be reminded, if your dancer is selected for one of these additional opportunities, you do NOT need to accept. This is completely optional. 

For the 2026/2027 season, auditions will determine dancers for:

• One Duet/Trio with an average age of 6 and under

• One Solo for a dancer age 7 or 8

• One Duet/Trio with an average age of 7 or 8

Additional Private-Group Fees

• Solo: $140/month, if cast

• Duet/Trio: $75/month, if cast

TNC Production & Petite/Junior Acro Opportunities

Any dancer who makes the Mini/Petite Troupe may have the opportunity to participate in our Full Team TNC Production Dance.

Participation in the Full Team Production Dance is NOT required.

Dancers who participate in the Full Team Production must:

1. Attend two Saturday Production rehearsals per month, from 10:30–11:30 AM.

2. These same requirements apply to any dancer who is cast in and accepts the Petite/Junior Acro Dance, two Saturday’s a month from 9:30-10:30

(Please see the TNC Handbook for specific Saturday rehearsal dates.)

 The fee for each of these dances is $25/month, and ONLY rehearses September-April. 

Company & Competition Fees

Company Member Fee — $125/Dancer

This is a once-a-year fee that helps cover administrative expenses associated with each competition, as well as choreography fees.

Competition Coach Fee — $10/Competition/Dancer

We believe it is important for our coaches to be present at each competition. This fee helps offset coach compensation, lodging, and travel expenses.

Costume Fees

It is always our goal to keep costume costs as low as possible. At the same time, we understand the importance of costumes in competitive dance and scoring.

• Costume fees will not exceed $110 per costume (2 dances/costumes per troupe.)

• We will make every effort to keep costs below this amount whenever possible.

• TNC Production Costume: Additional $110 fee, if participating.

• A 6% Maryland sales tax will be added to costume invoices.

Competition Entry Fees

Competition fees are determined by each individual competition.

Estimated entry fees are:

• Group: Approximately $75–$95 per entry

• Duet/Trio: Approximately $75–$95 per entry

• Solo: Approximately $100–$200 per entry

Actual fees will vary by competition.

Company Jackets & Team Gear

Team jackets and T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Mini and Petite Troupe dancers are required to wear either a team jacket or team T-shirt onstage during each regional competition's awards ceremony.

Estimated prices:

• Team Jacket: Approximately $100

• Team T-Shirt: Approximately $25

The Mini/Petite Company hairstyle will be:

High Bun or High Pony-Braid (details to come)

Important Reminders

Before committing to the Mini/Petite Troupe, please make sure your dancer and family are prepared for the following:

• Weekly age-appropriate recreational classes

• Weekly 60-minute troupe rehearsal

• Four regional competition weekends

• Mandatory full-cast rehearsal on January 23, 2027

• Additional Saturday rehearsals if participating in TNC Production or Petite/Junior Acro

• Competition, costume, company, and coach fees

• Additional fees for solos, duets/trios, or optional programs if applicable
